If you're hoping to find a provider who can make your emotions go away...
You've come to the wrong place.
If you have a mood disorder, your general emotional state or mood is distorted or inconsistent with your circumstances and interferes with your ability to function.
All of our emotions are important. Susan David says emotions are data. Emotions give us information about what is going on internally. The more we try and stuff it away or ignore our emotions, the stronger/louder they get. That's because we need our emotions to help us navigate our experience of the world.
In behavioral therapy, you learn how to tolerate your emotions without being overwhelmed. You work on experiencing your emotions as safe sensations so you can understand the message they’re sending. When you experience your emotions as non-threatening, it allows you the space to choose a different response, rather than your usual habitual reaction.
You still won’t be able to make your emotions go away, but you can experience your emotions in a way that allows you to be more engaged in your life.
